How is Novolog different from Humalog? Clearly it is different from Regular, but why do people report having more stable results using Novolog in the insulin pump than they do using Humalog?

Novolog has slightly different amino acid substitutions compared to Humalog. Novolog may last a bit longer than Humalog, but both are very rapid acting compared to Regular insulin. Both peak faster and more vigorously and both do not last quite as long as Regular insulin.

I would assume that the benefits of using Novolog in an insulin pump maybe reflected in the diluting solutions and preservatives used by the two companies. There are not yet any scientific studies verifying that Novolog causes fewer pump problems, just some anecdotal information to this effect. It may be true or may not be true, but there is no reason not to try the switch if you are having problems with local site irritation or catheter occlusions or if you notice that control of glucose values worsens as you get to the 48th or 72nd hour of your sets. Speak with your diabetes team and get their advice, of course.
