Question from Scotland:

I am interested to know when the Therasense FreeStyle meter is likely to be marketed in the UK. Also, could you tell me whether the meter has a memory, how many readings it holds, and whether the readings can be downloaded to a PC.

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

We asked the company, and the response is as follows:

Thank you for your inquiry. Regarding UK distribution, we are in negotiations with potential partners in the UK at the moment although nothing is finalized. At the moment, we do not yet have CE Marking so I anticipate that we will not be in the UK until the second quarter of 2001.

Regarding software, the health care professional version of the FreeStyle Connect Data Management software has just launched in the US and the home version will be available in December, 2000. The memory stores 250 readings with date and time stamp and offers a 14-day average. The user can mark control solution results as control readings as well. The meter can be set by the user for mmol/L for UK units of measurement.

It may be helpful to your European readers to be aware of our partnership with Disetronic which you can review here: http://www.therasense.com/about/press_09182000.html. It currently applies to Scandinavia, Germany, Austria, Holland, and Switzerland.
