Complications
Question from Sarasota, Florida, USA:
I am a 40 year old female, who weighs 125 pounds, was diagnosed with type2 five years ago, and I am taking oral hypoglycemic agents Several months ago, I had lost a grand total of 20 pounds over the previous 7 months and was unable to gain it back. My hemoglobin A1c was 12.0% so I asked to start taking insulin, and it is now down to 8% after a lot of very hard work.
Among other problems, I developed neuritis, not affecting my hands, head or feet, for which I am currently being an anti-seizure drug and an antidepressant
I would really be grateful if someone can find an article or two on this subject since I have been unable to locate any information. I understand that every case will be different but still, just to read that other people have gone through it would be comforting. It seems that nothing about developing diabetes has been textbook for me. I am hopeful that I will have a full recovery from the pain — there have been times (a couple of hours here and there) when I was not in any pain at all.
Answer:
Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of information on this. My suggestion would be to contact the Neuropathy Association. T They can be reached at 1-800-247-6968 or via the web and have active support groups throughout the country and a newsletter that you may find helpful.
