Insulin Analogs

advertisement
Question from Colombo, Sri Lanka:

I need to know about new research on Lantus insulin done on rats and findings of tumors in these rats after high doses of Lantus insulin.

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

You are probably thinking of a report that came out of Germany last year reporting tumours in rats after very large doses of glargine (see Evaluation of the carcinogenic potential of insulin glargine (LANTUS) in rats and mice, Int J Toxicol. 2002 May-Jun; 21(3): 171-9). The conclusion was that these resulted from chronic inflammation at the injection site and not from the glargine itself.
