Complications
Question from Singapore:
I read that men with diabetes have a problem with getting an erection. Does this mean they cannot have offspring?
Answer:
It is true that diabetes is associated with difficulty having erections in males. This however does not mean men with diabetes have problems with conception. Obviously, if it is difficult to have erections, it is difficult to have intercourse. However, erectile dysfunction is a problem experienced by men who have had the disease for a long time, not necessarily experienced at the time in their life where they want to start a family. Thanks to the introduction of several types of medications, men with erectile dysfunction can experience improvement in their problem. The bottom line is that men need to discuss these important issues with their physicians or diabetes teams.
