Question from Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA:

My current blood sugar levels, around 100 mg/dl [5.6 mmol/L], put me in the “pre-diabetes” range. So, should I use sports drinks after exercise or avoid them altogether? My goal is to bring my sugar level down to well within the normal range through diet and exercise.

Answer:

You will need to read the label of the sports drinks and see how much total carbohydrate is in each one. They can even vary from flavor to flavor and type of drink such as Gatorade, which has many different varieties.
