Question from St. Louis, Missouri, USA:

I am writing about a two-year-old who was diagnosed in December with type 1 diabetes. She understands everything, but is not saying anything. Her caregiver’s were wondering if the sugar levels of 500 mg/dl [27.8 mmol/L] prior to her diagnosis could have caused her problems in the area of speech/language. I have not found anything on the Internet addressing this.
