Question from Sykesville, Maryland, USA:

If someone who has diabetes doesn’t have good control of it, can diabetes cause little bumps around the vagina and anus?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

There may be a candida infection in the area which occurs more commonly when there is sugar in the urine. There can also be boils which are collections of pus and can occur more frequently if the blood sugar is high.. There can, of course, be other skin abnormalities that are unrelated to the diabetes.

It is important for you to show these bumps to your doctor. Hopefully, your doctor will conduct the exam in a very private, professional way so as not to make you feel too uncomfortable. Doctors are used to examining all parts of the body.
