Is it hard to detect diabetes in younger children?

Answer:

Not usually, because the presentation is not very subtle. Many young children have a very short period of symptoms such as drinking excessively and passing too much urine before decompensating and becoming obviously ill with DKA [diabetic ketoacidosis].
