Question from Anderson, Indiana, USA:

Is it normal for your blood sugar to rapidly fall and increase when you eat?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

Blood glucose excursions (the rise and fall) are based on many things. Blood sugar will fall more steadily during the peak of insulin action, for example. Blood sugar will rise steadily within the two hours following a meal. But, other things are also important to consider. For instance, did the person exercise immediately before the meal (causing the blood sugar to drop)? When was the insulin given in relation to the meal? What type of insulin was given? Does the person rotate injection sites?

All of these issues should be explored with your diabetes care provider to answer your question more fully.
