Question from India:

The doctor has prescribed metformin SR 500 mg at noon and one metformin 500 mg after the evening meal. Is it okay to take both types of metformin?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

Safety is not really a question. It would be safe enough. The true issue is whether you get any additional benefit using the SR form this way. The SR form is more expensive. When the SR form is used, it is usually used as a once a day regimen. I am not sure that the specific regimen you mention has been tested in a clinical trial. Please go back and discuss this with the doctor.
