Question from Boston, Massachusetts, USA:
Is there is a common blood type (for example, A Positive) that is more common among people with type 1 diabetes?
Answer:
From: DTeam Staff
On chromosome 6, there are two loci closely linked to type 2 diabetes. One is for the HLA antigen cell surface proteins which have been much used in determining susceptibility to this form of diabetes and another is to the rarely used ‘Kidd’ blood group type. I can find no definite link with ABO blood groups.
