Daily Care, Insulin Pumps

advertisement
Question from Roanoke, Virginia, USA:

My 12 year old daughter, who has only had diabetes for two years, has just started using a pump. Her blood sugars were great for the first week (the best they have been in two years), but now they have gone sky high again (450-500 mg/dl [25-27.8 mmol/L]). We are counting carbs like crazy, and the machine is in good working order. Please help — she is really upset and frustrated!

From: DTeam Staff

Your best resource for complete help with your current struggles is the team that started her insulin pump. Problems such as this frequently require sitting down and analyzing her insulin dosing, site selection, pump mechanics and various other problems that could contribute to the high blood sugars you’re seeing. They should be happy to hear from you and troubleshoot problems that you’re having.
