Question from Florida, USA:

My 9 year old has Type 1 and her friend used a meter to see if it hurt. The friend’s blood sugar was 360 mg/dl. Should I tell this child’s mother? Is this cause for concern?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

That unexpected high blood sugar was a surprise to you all, I am sure. It is possible that the child had not washed her hands before testing, any sugar on the finger could have raised the test result. If this was not the case, I think it would warrant a retest at her doctor’s office just to make sure.
