Question from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA:
My daughter has a ring all the way around her neck that is dark, crusty and cracked, and I remember reading somewhere that this was a symptom of something which I thought that it was diabetes. Is this true? What might be causing it?

Acanthosis Nigricans is a black and velvety change in the skin that can occur in folks who have diabetes or are at risk for diabetes. I would suggest showing the ring to your daughter’s pediatrician for a professional opinion.
