Question from Dryden, Ontario, Canada:

My husband went to the clinic here and they had him do a 24 hour urine test. His serum creatine is up to 13 mg/dl now. They’re telling us it should be between one and two, so it is high. He has been a diabetic since birth. He will be 43 in July. Is he going into kidney failure? When should he start dialysis? He takes Novolin Toronto three times a day and NPH once a day.

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

The level of creatine he is presenting with is very high. Hopefully, your doctors will be able to treat him and bring it down. If they cannot, it is likely that dialysis would occur soon.
