Insulin Pumps

advertisement
Question from :

My niece, who is starting college next month, wants an insulin pump, but her mother thinks she will not eat right, and refuses to assist her in obtaining one. Is there any validity to this? Does insurance help with the cost?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

Insulin pumps don’t make people care for themselves, monitor correctly nor eat properly. If someone cannot eat in a safe and reasonable fashion, then insulin pumps won’t solve this problem – and would only be a very expensive way to care for one’s diabetes. Your niece’s diabetes team should be consulted to see if she is a good candidate for an insulin pump or not. Her folks need to be part of this process, of course.
