Other Illnesses
Question from Medford, New York, USA:
My two year old daughter has been having episodes in which she wanders around (or at night just sits up in bed) and her hands twitch and she mumbles incoherently. Her eyes are glazed and “a million miles away”. She had an EEG which was normal and is scheduled for a two-day hospital stay to do a 48-hour EEG to rule out absence or partial complex seizures. It seems that she has these episodes a lot more when she has had higher amounts of sugar. These episodes can occur 30 times a day and last approximately two 2 minutes each (night ones last a lot longer). I asked her pediatrician, and he didn’t see a relation. Can it be a coincidence or should I have her tested for something sugar related?
Answer:
This does not sound like it is related to blood sugar.
