Question from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada:

Our daughter was diagnosed at the age of seven and a half months old with type 1 diabetes. Would this make her one of the youngest in Canada or North America? What is the percentage of children diagnosed at this age?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

Not the youngest, but certainly one of the younger patients with type1 diabetes. There are extremely rare cases of neonatal diabetes and also many diagnosed under the age of one to two years with classical type 1 diabetes mellitus.
