Question from Nelson, New Zealand:
Our seven year old son experiences great mood swings and violent outbursts, and his child psychologist suggested that this might be due to low blood sugars levels. How can I be sure? What food do I give him to combat this problem? Is it a realistic answer? Should he be tested for diabetes?
Answer:

If hypoglycaemia were causing your son’s problems, then he could be tested for this by monitoring his blood sugars. You should inquire whether he should be assessed by an endocrinologist.
It is unusual for this to be caused by diabetes.
