Question from Stoneham, Massachusetts, USA:

My seven-year-old daughter, living with type 1 diabetes for a little over three years, recently, within four to six months, developed a smell to her hair. It smells like a sweaty scalp that hasn’t been washed in days even immediately after washing thoroughly. I am concerned that it will become an embarrassment issue soon and would like to know if there were any connection to her diabetes. I would appreciate any advice, if so.

Answer:

I’m sorry, but I don’t have any idea of any connection to diabetes.
