Genetics and Heredity

Question from Portales, New Mexico, USA:

Seven months ago, I found out I have type 2 diabetes, and I heard that diabetes skips a generation. Is that true?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

The inheritance of type 2 diabetes is complicated, but probably more governed by insulin resistance induced by excess body weight and lack of exercise rather than genetic endowment. There is no evidence that this form of diabetes skips a generation, but there are certainly good figures to show that type 2 diabetes in childhood is on the increase.
