My six year old son, who has type 1, an 8.3 A1c, wears an insulin pump, and was diagnosed at the age of two and a half, is complaining of his legs hurting while he is playing and running. We have had several blood tests and X-rays done and all was okay. He has been complaining about his legs since he was diagnosed. Is this related to the diabetes? His doctors are saying it could be growing pains, however, this is a frequent complaint from him, not sporadic. Also, he complains about stomachaches. Sometimes he is low, about 60 mg/dl [3.3 mmol/L], which we understand, but, other times, his blood sugars are fine, in the lows 100s mg/dl [around 5.6 to 6.5 mmol/L]. He has never been hospitalized for problems with his blood sugars.
