Diagnosis and Symptoms

Question from Hewitt, New Jersey, USA:

Since there is diabetes on both sides of our family, we have been concerned about our overweight 11 year old daughter. We started checking her sugar which ranged 114-169 mg/dl [6.3-9.4 mmol/L] so we took her for blood work. The doctor said her sugar is high, but she does not have diabetes and that her protein is very high. Do protein levels have anything to do with diabetes? What should we do about her blood sugar levels? Is her weight a factor? We won’t see the doctor for a week, and I’m worried now!!

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

Your physician should be able to direct you to any appropriate testing or resources your daughter needs to diagnose or rule out diabetes. Protein levels are not typically related to diabetes.
