Question from a nurse in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA:

What advice do you have for an active 8 year old boy (Type 1 diagnosed four years ago) who is going through a growth spurt and has blood sugars out of control? He is attending our university for an enrichment program and we see him every day in our health services office.

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

Obviously, he needs a consultation with the diabetes team. He may need a new schedule for insulin. Certainly, he needs more insulin if the sugars are constantly high, but when and how much is beyond we can supply by e-mail.

Encourage this consultation.
