I have read about the devices like Glucowatch and CGMS. But, they do not really replace the fingersticks. It will be a big relief when we have a device that continuously monitors blood glucose (replaces the fingersticks) and sounds alarm on LOWs and HIGHs. How far is the research on such a device? When should we expect one?

Many companies are working on continuous glucose sensors that are reliable enough to one day replace traditional fingerstick glucose monitoring. The challenge is enormous, and has proven much more difficult than most people thought it would be. Many of these devices are in clinical trials right now.
