Question from San Jose, California, USA:

What tests determine the degree of insulin production and pancreatic islet cell destruction?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

The most common clinical test is to determine the level of a peptide in the blood known as C-peptide in response to a challenge that raises the blood sugars. The C-peptide should rise with the challenge. There are other more sophisticated ways that are used in research studies. The most common is the intravenous glucose tolerance test.
