Complications
Question from Virginia, USA:
You always hear that the healing process is slower for a diabetic person. What is the percentage rate of healing for a person with diabetes as compared to an individual with no health problems? A friend’s elderly father is in a coma from a brain injury and they are wondering if his diabetes could play a part in his recovery process.
Answer:
If your diabetes has been in good control over the years no difference exists as far as the healing process time as well as rate are concerned. I can suppose your friend’s elderly father has probably been suffering from high blood pressure or atherosclerosis of brain vessels, either leading to brain injury (stroke). Recovery from stroke that has injured someone’s brain’s nervous cells is much more than routine healing.
