Ashya

Ashya was diagnosed with Type 1 when she was six years old. She is currently 16 and had been feeling a little sad about this 10 year anniversary. We have celebrated her diagnosis day every year as another year of surviving and thriving on insulin. She has decided to write an article about her journey in her school on line magazine. She calls her article “ 10 Years of Living to Spite My Immune System.” This is a big step for her to share what living with Type 1 is really like. She has accomplished so much even with adversity. She plays the cello, varsity tennis and is a lifeguard. We have come a long way with our diabetes community. She attended diabetes camp, volunteered for JDRF and participated in Friends For Life Conferences. We Looped with Omnipod, built Nightscout, use Anubis and now the Ilet. Type 1 Nation has had an incredible impact on our journey since diagnosis. Although she was initially a little sad about this 10 year mark, she feels happy about her article and hopes to give insight to her school community about life with diabetes. She will soon enter college life and begin adulthood with the knowledge that her Type 1 Community is a great support and will continue to push the bar for more effective treatments.
