I was misdiagnosed with type 2 diabetes in August of 1999 and it wasn’t until April of 2000 that I was correctly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 17. It was a frustrating and grueling 8 months of not getting better until I went into diabetic ketoacidosis and was hospitalized. It was like being given new life when I first received insulin and I knew from that day forward my life would never be the same. Diabetes is not an easy task and it taxes you mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It’s been a tough 25 years for me, as it is with any diabetic. It’s hard to stay motivated and keep on the diabetic straight and narrow, but it’s something that we must do day to day and hour to hour. It’s been interesting to see and live with the new therapies and technologies that have advanced over the years and I cant hope but to look to the future and have faith that one day they will find a cure.
