I was diagnosed when I was 7 years old and had to be hospitalized for almost two weeks until we got my blood sugar under control. They told me I had diabetes for at least 8 months before being diagnosed. It’s a miracle within itself that I survived that long with no diagnosis. I am now 25 years old and it has been such a long journey with having to handle the daily struggles with this disease. It’s exhausting, taxing, and expensive to try to live each day all because my pancreas decided so long ago to give up on me. But it has made me so much more resilient, head strong, brave, and patient. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and how well I’ve handled my health for this long. I wish it was something that I could take a break from but it’s sadly a full time job dealing with type 1 diabetes.
