I was diagnosed in third grade. I remember blaming another girl in my class at the time for passing it to me. As I grew I had the privilege of meeting with older diabetics that gave me the “handle it or it handles you” reality check I needed. Since then I have done my best to be a mentor to those who are newly diagnosed and let them know they’re not alone and this fight isn’t unwinnable.
