Dakotah

From his mom, Kim:

Dakotah was six years old when he was diagnosed with T1D after about a month showing signs, but I had no clue what the signs were and never imagined diabetes as we all hear that diabetes affects adults. I had no clue in children! We were given training and so much to learn but Dakotah was determined to do his best at handling the diagnosis. We went food shopping and he was immediately checking the carbs in everything and putting back his favorites saying, “this has this many carbs, that’s not worth it,” and back in the shelf it went. He’s done so well through the 10 years but it’s a struggle trying to fit in but he doesn’t let that stop him. He now has insulin pump and CGM, which are game changers in this thing called life with diabetes. He is almost 17 and does well, I think he has been given the tools to when he’s on his own, he will do very well. We had a huge wake up call when this was diagnosed. He has a few autoimmune diseases on top of this but he is a strong fighter! In this picture (I can’t remember how old he was) but we took some of his old pods and posted for awareness.
