I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was four years old. I was the first person with type 1 diabetes in the family. It definitely took a toll on our family especially with being Hispanic. My mom definitely took it into action and definitely did change our day to day routine and changed it to fit into my diabetic life. It took some getting used to especially with being a little kid and seeing sweets everywhere! But I never felt like I was neglected. It was hard growing up seeing all the delicious snacks everywhere around be especially at birthday parties I was able to taste certain things but I don’t blame my mom she was only doing what she thought was best for me! Always thanks to my mom and dad! I love them so much because for 17 years of my life they took the best care of me as much as they could! I turned 18 and turned more independent I wanted to deal with this on my own it sucks to say but I know my parents aren’t gonna be around the whole time so I wanted to take the challenge on myself and I always had my parents support. I love to see how much technology has advanced it always help to see how far it’s gone. I am on insulin pump with dexcom that work together and my A1C is 5.6! Dexcom and t:slim pump have changed my life!
