Emily

From her mom, Amy:

My daughter Emily was diagnosed just a month after she turned five years old. We were in total shock and wondered how this could happen to my sweet little girl. We knew life would never be the same. But I learned how resilient and strong my daughter really is. She never let Type 1 Diabetes beat her. She is now a Freshman in high school. She started a new school this year and she is excelling. She is a straight A student and loves to read. She is very active. She started Tang So Doo karate when she was seven years old for exercise to help keep her blood sugar in check. Now she is a second degree black belt working toward her third degree and eventually she wants to be a Master. She has also danced and played basketball in the past. It hasn’t been easy knowing we need to think about blood sugars and how activities affect her levels, but it has become second nature now after 10 years. We are so thankful to the technology today. She is on the Omnipod 5 and Dexcom G6. We managed her first two years without Dexcom and now I can’t imagine not having the technology. I am so proud of my daughter and how far she has come with this awful disease, but she is so amazing and strong.

We love you Emily and your Dad and I are so proud of you! Love, Mom.
