As I was diagnosed with diabetes at age six, the way I found out was a bit traumatizing. My parents didn’t believe in going to the doctor’s for sicknesses, but when I kept getting worse they took me to children’s hospital in Detroit. I was diagnosed there and stayed there for three days. Every single day has been a huge journey for me, and as I get older I realized that I need to take better care of myself. I started on the CGM when I was 18 and have had a pump since 2010 I believe. My parents were such a huge support system for me. I’ve always been scared of needles so diabetes has been challenging. I was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy at the age of 18. Ever since then I really cracked down on taking care of myself and cleared up the diabetic retinopathy in twi years. It is gone now. I started putting on my own sites just a year ago. I am very proud of how far I have come since I graduated high school and am about to graduate college. It’s been a rollercoaster but I am blessed to be healthy now.
