Jacob

From his mom, Jeannette:

Jacob was diagnosed at the age of five while he was on a family vacation to Las Vegas. He stayed in the children’s hospital for a week while the doctors worked to get his body healthy again and the staff helped our family learn about how to take care of Jacob going forward. Even at five, Jacob was determined to do things his way. He started giving himself his own needles (with supervision of course) and wanted to be involved in every decision to do with his health. When he got home from Las Vegas he impressed everyone with his knowledge about diabetes and his ability to explain it as the nurses and dietitians had explained it to him. His favourite part was the hamster poop (ketones). A decade later we have a teenager who doesn’t remember his life before diabetes. It’s always just been a part of him and has never stopped him from doing anything he puts his mind to. He is a strong and resilient kid and we couldn’t be more proud of him everyday.
