Jessi

From her mom, Serena:

Jessi was diagnosed at three years old. She had her birthday in the hospital. We tried to distract her with the fact that her hospital bed had a crank just like in the book Madeline. When she was a toddler, she would hide behind the couch and say in her prayers bless mine daddy not shot me. You are not allowed to get a pump until you are 10 so I drove to school to give her a shot at lunchtime. We’ve been through many glucometers and pumps and CGM as they have evolved. Through the grace of God and Jessi‘s willingness to be so conscientious. She has had four daughters. Her first daughter was born before continuous glucose monitors were available. She literally absolutely checked every single hour. Jessi has endured depression and an inability to process gluten along with her diabetes. She has been thankfully free of complications for so many years, but has recently started having some difficulty with her eyes. I am so inordinately proud of how she cares for her body. They are many times that it has felt like too much and yet she has continued- She is someone that everyone else goes to to talk when things are hard because she knows how to truly listen and have charity. We love her so much.
