Joy
From her mother, Dennita:
My daughter was diagnosed with TD1 at 15 months. She hadn’t even learned how to walk. She has been a warrior. She is my hero. She rarely complains and when she is burnt out or feeling low she thinks of others who struggle with cancer or disabilities that limit what they can do and accepts the realization that it could be worse. She has never allowed her diabetes to stop her from doing anything. She is an athlete who has shown horses; swam on a swim team; played basketball, soccer and, she is presently a volleyball player in college. She has scuba dived and done rope courses that have scared me to death. Nothing stops Joy. Her zest for life and her attitude is inspirational. At the same time, this journey can get long and tedious . This CWD Journey Award will encourage her. She has had diabetes for 20 years; her entire life. She does not know a time when she could eat freely, An entire month of sleep. Her pump always wakes her with occlusion alerts. A trip where she could just throw some things in a bag and enjoy the spontaneity. I still pray for a cure but until then thank you to those who offer this award of celebration because people with TD1 are overcomers.
