I was diagnosed at the age of 9.5 in 2011 and had a long road to face. I didn’t get my first pump until 2016, it was an easy adjustment but still made it hard not to stand out. It helped me to gain more confidence in myself, I learned how to live with it. I started out with a Medtronic pump and went through all the upgrades until the end of 2021 I ended up going into DKA, this is when I realized I needed to take things more seriously. We looked into a new system (Omnipod + Dexcom) and this has completely changed my life. Since then I was able to find a husband who loved me for me no matter what, and even better… CARED about my diabetes and how I take care of myself. Now I have a Diabetic Alert Dog and a job where no one cares that diabetes is apart of me. I learned through the years that even though you get made fun of for being different you HAVE to be you and stay strong for yourself. EMBRACE being different!!
