Having diabetes has truly made my life better. Of course, there are days when I don’t feel great or am tired, but through that, I treasure my life greatly and love having the opportunity to be unique. My family always tells me that they never once have heard me complain about having diabetes. What is there to complain about? I am fortunate to be in this community. Being diabetic has taught me how truly precious life is, and I know now to never take life for granted.
I am currently an elementary school teacher. Each day, I have the opportunity to teach students not only how to read and how to add, but I also have the opportunity to teach the future generations what diabetes is. My favorite part of my job is when a student asks, “what’s that thing on your arm?” This question opens up a whole new world in my classroom. I have the opportunity to explain what Type 1 Diabetes is, and my students see each day how important it is to love life!
