I was diagnosed when I was 4 years old. Blessed and lucky to be the daughter of extremely wonderful parents who did not let my diagnosis or the changes to all our lives hold me back at all. I was lucky to see Dr. Etswiller in Edina, Minnesota, and he made the numerous changes seem far less painful or huge. From figuring out the rubber food to navigating Camp Needlepoint to learn to give my own shots and so much more I was very lucky to be part of all the International Diabetes Center offered. My parents took many classes and spent time with other parents learning so many things. And I know they put me on the path to always view my diabetes as just who I am. It doesn’t change who I am or things I can do. You plan as best you can be prepared for what can happen and have as much fun as possible. That was their way and that is how I am.I have always felt and believed I am blessed to be. I am do lucky to have been born when I was to my parents who did and have done so much for me in my diabetes journey. Life maybe different from some but it’s really all I have known. Today is so much better than years before with all the technology and developments. My Wonderful husband and son are my dream of wonderful cheering section. They have both helped me countless times and always made sure that I never felt bad about anything. We can go a little later we can stop for that snack or whatever the adventure needs to happen. The journey continues and I feel very lucky. I remember my first vials of insulin Regular and Lente from Eli Lilly. Without those medications and all of you I wouldn’t be here. There are no words to express my appreciation of gratitude. I am T1 proud, blessed, lucky and so excited to enjoy all that this life has to offer.
