The summer before I was diagnosed my mom noticed I was using the bathroom a lot and I was sick. After a trip with my Girl Scout troop I had lost quite a few pounds in that week. Fast forward about to months and I was still getting up about 4-5 times a night to go to the bathroom and was still having days that I just felt awful. At the time my mom worked in a lab and before school she had me do some labs and by the time I got to school they were called to have me picked up because my blood sugar was over 600. Luckily my mom knew the signs and she caught it pretty quickly, one night in the hospital and lots of learning. I’m grateful to be where I am today, with controlled numbers and a fantastic support system!
