Polly

From her mom, Orla:

Polly is my almost 18 yo daughter. I was diagnosed with T1D in August 1983 (I need a medal too!) when I was 12, 4 months after my mom had been diagnosed with T1D at the age of 37. Those first few years after Polly was diagnosed were a roller coaster of emotions for me, and I still cant imagine what it was like for her. I knew what was in store for her….puberty and teenage years with T1D, over-protective parents when she went on sleepovers etc, but she has always risen to the top and taken it in her stride. Today, a dear old friend of mine sent me a message to say that in May he will “celebrate” 50 years of T1D and he was wondering if I thought it was a reason to celebrate or mope around and complain. I was quick to tell him to celebrate and I hope to be able to help Polly celebrate when she hits 50 years of rocking T1D. More immediately, I hope my mom is still around in 8 years so that we can both celebrate 50 years fighting together:)

Thriving with T1D
