Samantha
From her father, Jason:
At diagnosis, Sam told her mom “you take care of the worrying, I’ll take care of me.” This from a seven year old, set the tone for the first 10 years of Sam’s journey. Since then, Sam has excelled at everything she has put her mind to. In academics, she has put in hard work to be part of three separate programs for middle and high school that focus on STEM related subjects. She recently graduated from the Gatton Academy of Science and Mathematics where she earned her associates degree alongside her high school diploma. The incredible part of her Gatton journey is that the school is a residential program. This means that at the age of 15 Sam moved into a dorm at Western Kentucky University and managed not only college courses, but all aspects of her daily life, including managing her diabetes journey. In the fall, Sam will be going to the Savannah College of Art and Design where she will be working toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Immersive Reality – 3rd computer design. She also hopes to work toward a minor in film – either acting or production. Her mother and I could not be more proud!
