I was 11 years old when I got diagnosed with Type 1. It came as a shock to me and to my entire family. I was diagnosed two months to the day after my favorite person in the world, my grandfather, tragically passed away from a heart attack. This along with my diagnosis hit me and my family very hard. I had no idea the change that was coming to my life. We spent 9 months doing 4 shots a day and countless finger pricks until I was finally eligible for an insulin pump. That made life so much more manageable. Then not long after that, I was a recipient of a CGM. I have never wanted to celebrate a milestone as much as I wanted to celebrate getting a CGM. I find it hard to believe that this is my 10 year anniversary. So much has happened in those 10 years, but I am still incredibly grateful for the constant support and encouragement that I have received along the way. Thank you for doing this. It truly means a lot.
