When I was diagnosed at age 12, my pediatrician told my parents that I would never live a normal life and would probably not survive to see my 40th birthday. That being said, I decided that I would fight to prove them wrong! I have lived an active life, not without challenges daily with my diabetes. I have accomplished many things. I am a mother to four grown sons and two grandchildren. I was an investigator with the State of GA until I retired three years ago. I have been a Scout leader for 27 years which provided opportunities to camp in backcountry in Alaska for 10 days.
