It was two weeks before my 18th birthday when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I was never scared — I just embraced the fact that I know had to take shots to live. It was a lot to understand but I didn’t care. I didn’t really want to take care of the diabetes until after I gave birth to my son. I have never been hospitalized for my diabetes except when I was diagnosed. Now I’m 51 years old and try and keep up to date with everything that is new for diabetes. I am now on a pump and love it. I am using the iLet bionic pancreas with the Dexcom G6.
