Toni Boger
I have been living with type 1 diabetes since I was diagnosed on September 2, 1999. I remember multiple medical professionals telling me multiple times that my diagnosis meant I wouldn’t live past 40. I haven’t always taken good care of my diabetes, but have found incredibly supportive endocrinologists in recent years who’ve given me the confidence to take control of my diabetes because they believe I can live a long, happy life. I’m currently on a CGM and insulin pump, my A1C hasn’t been above 7 in 5 years, and my time in range consistently averages 70-85% per week. I have also not been hospitalized for any issues related to my diabetes (DKA, etc.) since I was diagnosed. Like others my journey has not been easy with my diabetes. But I work really hard, and I am finally in a good place with my diabetes so I can live my fullest life. This award would be a nice reminder for me that all of my work to stay healthy matters and that I can a full, happy life!
