Question from Sylvester, Georgia, USA:
Can someone who has diabetes use honey as a sweetener since it is natural?
Answer:
From: DTeam Staff
A person who has diabetes can use any sweetener. The important thing is that the amount rather than the source of carbohydrate is considered. A tablespoon of honey contains about the same amount of carbohydrate as a tablespoon of sugar.

Additional comments from Lois Schmidt Finney, diabetes dietitian:
Honey counts as sugar in the diet for those with diabetes, and you would need to see a dietitian for the total amount of carbohydrates (and also protein and fats) to include in a meal plan.
